[ after the disaster that was everything on that bus, yams is one of the people yin yu will be checking in with. he can't help it, the urge to look after a concerningly wayward disciple entirely too strong.
spotting him once things have settled, yams will be approached by a man in dark clothes, wearing a mask! how suspicious. he greets, quietly: ] Yasusada.
[Hello Yin Yu! After his conversation with Winter Wizard, Yasusada bailed and went straight for his cabin--so he's now wearing his regular outfit, minus the chestplate and his arm guards. It's fine. He's got his sword safely at his hip, too, and his hair is still up in the scrunchie, because he can't be bothered to take it down and redo it.
Currently, he's just wandering around the campsite, trying every locked door to see if it'll open, because trial and error usually works? Sure. But he looks up at the sound of his name, blinking.]
[ ah. right. the phrase 'a nameless servant' nearly comes out of his mouth, but he stops himself, since, like everyone else, he's already seen his face. so, he reaches up to push the mask properly back to the side of his face.
(not that it's very memorable.)
he bows though, politely. ] We spoke a few times on the bus. Yin Yu.
[HELLO MASKED FRIEND a puppy sword is coming to find you!! Well, kind of. The passing of the days hasn't escaped his notice, and like many others, he's a little bit on edge; he's tried to stay somewhat optimistic about this whole thing, but, y'know. As naive as he can be, sometimes, he isn't that dumb.
So he's... kinda-sorta patrolling? But when he sees Yin Yu, he'll wander over with a little wave.]
Hello, Yu-kun. [I guess he's just Yu-kun forever now] Is everything alright so far?
[ this is probably when yin yu was trying to track the mysterious masked npc... he wasn't successful in catching it properly, which was a bit frustrating, and hearing someone call his courtesy name is jarring from where he's watching the fog.
...ah. ] Yasusada. [ he turns at the greeting, and bows politely, mask in place. ] Did you see the other creature? Like the wizard and the others.
Edited (why did i click that icon tf ) 2020-06-12 00:31 (UTC)
said no one ever. yin yu kicked into business mode almost the minute the garbled, unintelligible voices started to speak, and immediately went out to investigate anything he could as soon as the word was out. such investigations have come to with almost nothing, and the meager scrap of information he's managed to get so far was a (lol) dead end.
he spots yasusada leaving, and keeps it in the back of his mind. by the time he's finished investigating, he seeks yasusada out fairly quickly. that mixed feeling of disappointment and sadness, a twist of bitter anger to it... yin yu's gotten so good at bottling it down that he looks after others, instead, and so, while yasusada's still running off, he'll go seek him out, mask still on his face, but voice still recognizable. ]
[ weirdly, yin yu has not been around much today. if anyone's caught hide or hair of him, it's been just a rustling off in the shadows, and he's mostly stuck to staying in the cabin. still, even with this... thing, because of staying outside, he hasn't seen yasusada and that's concerning.
it's when some of the chaos of the lake has ended that he spots him. there's an almost scolding but absolutely relieved - ] -Yasusada! [ from a familiar voice, and out from the shadows comes yin yu... walking backwards a little weirdly? don't worry about it.
anyway once he's there he drops down to examine him properly, reaching up to try and take his scarf off to toss it around his shoulders like the worrywart he is. ] You slept out here? Are you alright-- what's on your face? [ ??? ??? ]
i mean, he's out by the bonfire this evening when the dust has settled. yin yu's not going to find sleep any time soon, and being alone with his thoughts isn't great, but right now, it's all he can really do. he doesn't want to inflict it on anyone else, as he reflects on the day.
hearing yasusada's voice, yin yu looks up. he gives a small nod in greeting instead of a formal bow. ] ...Yasusada. [ a quiet greeting. ] How are you feeling?
[HE PROBABLY TRIED TO FIND YIN YU ON SATURDAY but anyway, here they are! Yasusada will try to find him again, presumably in the garden??? It's a nice place to be.]
on sunday, he's a little easier to reach. yin yu's sitting in one of the small seating areas when yasusada finds him, in front of a small bush of purple flowers. despite it being the garden, there's a little bit of smoke coming from in front of him--when yasusada gets close enough, he'll see a tiny, well maintained fire, and a cup full of water, as well as a small stack of brightly colored paper resting on his knee.
it's not raining so hard to immediately extinguish the flame, and as yin yu hears his name called, he glances up. he's masked, today. ] ...Yasusada. [ and gives a small bow of his head. ] I'm alright. [ as alright as you can be, anyway. ] What are you doing out here?
Well. So much for Yasusada seeking out Yin Yu, like he'd planned--after that hotass mess of an execution, he's going back to his cabin for his sword, and then immediately heading out into the forest. He'll probably be out there most of the day; whenever Yin Yu finds him, he'll still be doing sword drills with a sharp-eyed look on his face, fully focused and deadly. He's a very different sight from the normally energetic, friendly person he is around camp--the only similarity is likely the ferocity of his strikes, all passion and offense. His arm is, obviously, still very much broken and in its sling, and his sword isn't really made for one-handed strikes, but that doesn't seem to matter to him right now.]

THROWS MYSELF INTO YOUR ARMS sorry it has been a busy afternoon
[ it's the sound of the sword slicing through the air that catches yin yu's attention on his rounds. he doesn't approach immediately, but a little later in the day, yin yu makes his way out to the forest to find the full source of it.
it's yasusada. even with his arm broken, he's incredibly skilled. for a moment, yin yu watches, his presence masked easily simply by being utterly presenceless.
when he hops down, he stays out of range, but steps back, a bit, into yasusada's sightline, and, wordlessly, draws out the pink dagger from the camp store. he stands there so yasusada can see him clearly, and then takes on a defensive stance. not attacking, not moving forward, but ready to receive.
come on, it says.
sometimes, a spar speaks better than words ever really can. he was a cultivator once: he knows. ]
[ now that it's been a day or so, yin yu gets the chance to approach yasusada again. a day or so to meditate, to learn more about what's going on, and... he's feeling okay, but guy couldn't answer a question of his that he thinks maybe only yasusada will really be able to.
so. hello, yasusada!! whatever you're up to, here is a mask man, appearing from the shadows as he does, with his usual polite bow. it's not even particularly stiff. ]
[Well, after the votes come out, Yasusada's mainly sticking with Tsurumaru. It's an awful, complicated situation--and he hates it to his core.
But eventually, probably at night, he'll try and find Yin Yu. They had a lot of discussions during the trial today, and--well.
Yin Yu was nice enough not to leave him alone, when he had feelings he couldn't cope with. Even if that encounter helped change the course of their relationship, it's a kindness he didn't forget.]
Yu-kun?
[He's brought a bottle of tea, since I have no idea how he would heat any fresh tea up. He holds it out.]
[ yin yu's been a ghost pretty much since the trial ended. when he gets like this he tends to vanish, and now isn't much different. he's starting to miss hua cheng, prodding angrily at the personal communication array that he knows won't work, feeling antsy and -
miserable. trapped. what a familiar series of emotions.
when it's yasusada who speaks to him, he's a little... surprised. his mask covers his face still - any complicated emotions that flicker across it are hidden. he's glad that yasusada is here, for many reasons, but flayn --
he can't think about it. yin yu ducks his head in greeting; he'll take the bottle, but he probably won't drink it. ] ...what do you need, Yasusada?
[ after a few hours of just sort of dealing with all of those reveals, yin yu sets out to the portal for the first time. he's feeling antsy, in ways he hasn't in a while, and there's someone who he's fairly sure will need this more than he does.
...and, the last time they did this, yasusada needed it then, too. even if it ended the way it did; yin yu does not begrudge yasusada his emotions or his want to protect the person most important to him. things have started to feel a little more even between the two of them, anyway, and he's not sure how to begin addressing the knowledge they learned today with yasusada.
except...he kind of is, actually.
so. when he tracks down yasusada, he announces his presence with a little more noise than usual. it's hard not to - the wings on his back are huge and noisy, and it's harder to be quiet than he'd like. when he gets there, he waits until yasusada has noticed him before he speaks, with a bow of his head, brief, ]
Yasusada. Spar with me. [ it's not asking, this time, as he pulls out that same pink dagger from all those nights ago.]
[It's the first time Yasusada's gone through the portal himself, actually. He was trapped at the castle longer than he's been trapped in the camp, so it's not too difficult to find his way around once again.
He spends some time in the armory, first, then near Tiger's shrine--he stops in the doorway of the room Okita stayed in, but he doesn't linger. It feels too uncomfortable without him.
Eventually, he ends up by the wishing well. For a long time, he simply stands there, staring into it. The one and only time he'd used this well, he'd gotten extremely traumatizing results from it--he wonders, idly, if it still works. Probably not.
At one point, he takes out his dagger, as if he's seriously contemplating throwing it in. That's how Yin Yu can find him; even at the sound of his approach, Yasusada doesn't turn around, continuing to stare into the well.
When the silence feels expectant is when he finally lifts his head, turning to see who's waiting on him. A little of the focus seems to return to his eyes at the sound of Yin Yu's voice, and he blinks, taking a moment to look around.
...Right. This isn't...
...Right.
He doesn't ask questions. He doesn't even really want to think about everything they just learned, right now. Sparring would be a relief, even with this unfamiliar weapon--he's sparred Tsurumaru with it, so while it's still unnatural, it's not terribly uncomfortable.
He doesn't speak; just nods, turning around and getting into position. Yin Yu can come at him first, this time. It seems fair.]
[ okita-kun, again. he's learned a bit about yasusada's partner since they both arrived here, but this master of his is something of a mystery.
he takes a sip of his drink, thoughtfully regarding yasusada. ] ...What type of person is your master, Yasusada? If you wouldn't mind telling me about him.
[ this is opening pandora's box probably, but he is genuinely curious. ]
But Yasusada perks up immediately at the sound of Okita's name; even with everything happening around them, he's always happy to talk about his beloved master.]
He's wonderful! Very kind, and very funny--he loves to smile and laugh. But he's very strict, too. And so talented! I'm a difficult sword to wield, but he used me with ease. [Sword speak...]
He was very young when Hijikata-fukuchou found him. I think he said... 9 years old, or something like that. [Again, time is difficult for him.]
